The LinkedIn Profile Audit Checklist for Founders (2026 Edition)

Content strategy is wasted on a profile that doesn't convert the click. Before a single post goes out, we run every new account through the same audit. Here's the version you can run yourself.

Headline

Your headline is not your job title, LinkedIn already shows that under your name. It's the one line that tells a stranger what you're the go-to person for. If it reads like a resume line, rewrite it to state the outcome you create or the audience you serve.

Banner and photo

The default LinkedIn banner is the single most common signal of an unmanaged profile. A custom banner that reinforces your positioning, and a photo that looks like an actual person having an actual day, not a decade-old headshot, does more for first impressions than most people expect.

About section

Write it in first person, lead with the problem you solve or the perspective you hold, not a chronological résumé. Most about sections read like a LinkedIn-native cover letter. The ones that work read like the opening of a conversation.

Featured section

This is the most underused real estate on the platform. Pin your best-performing post, a press mention, or a link to real work, not a generic company brochure. It's the closest thing LinkedIn has to a portfolio.

  • Headline states an outcome or audience, not a job title
  • Banner is custom and reinforces positioning, not the LinkedIn default
  • Photo looks current and approachable, not a decade-old corporate headshot
  • About section opens with a point of view, written in first person
  • Featured section pins your strongest proof, not a generic company link
  • Activity shows consistent posting, not a burst of five posts followed by silence

Activity and posting cadence

A profile with a perfect headline and six months of silence still reads as inactive. Consistency matters more than frequency, three well-considered posts a week beats a daily post that trails off after two weeks. If your activity tab shows long gaps, fix that before you fix anything else.

Your profile is your digital handshake. Most founders haven't looked at theirs since they took the job they're now trying to leave behind.
